Entrapment

Here’s a new poem I wrote the other week – the first since the end of my poetry writing workshop! It still needs some revising, but I like what I have so far. What do you think?

Entrapment

The movies lie to me,
women undressing effortlessly –
robes thrown off the shoulder,
silk nightgowns slipping to the floor,
the dark aureoles rising from lace –

like it is something instinctual
these women have, Greek goddesses
casting aside their raiment,
not considering the times I get stuck

in my tee shirt, one arm in
and one arm out,
my jeans caught around my ankles,
that a woman can have as hard a time
unhooking a bra as a man can,
fingers clumsy with heat,
the reach behind the back
all but impossible.
